Chapel St John

The chapel St John was built at the time of the construction of the 1st Dixence dam, in 1931 on the initiative of Mr Jean Landry, then managing director of the SA la Dixence which was dedicated to its patron St John the Baptist.

Inscribed on the bell is a latin quotation by Vergil, the Roman poet and writer : « Labor improbus omnia vincit » – « Work conquers everything ».

Restored at the time of the erection of the Grande Dixence dam it has been placed under the safe keeping of the Blessed Virgin Our Lady of the Worksites who protects all workers.
